My name is Duzen Tekkal. I’m a journalist and human rights activist from Germany, who became the Founder of HAWAR.help.
I’m the Chairwoman of an association I never imagined would be necessary. As the daughter and one of eleven children of Yazidi refugees in Germany, I experienced a life in peace and freedom. As opposed to my ancestors, I had the opportunity to experience education. I was able to attend school and university and, like my siblings, can use my job to do my part for a more peaceful world. But then, my own generation was hit by something already experienced by the generations before it. Instead of living with humanitarian values, the Yazidis and other religious minorities in the far east are confronted with the terror of ISIS. Terror which also affects us here in Germany and anywhere else in the world. Not only through refugees but also through the threat to the freedom of our society and the way we live.
This motivated me to produce a film about the horrifying occurrences in the Middle East. But the project became much more than that. Because the suffering of the people was too great and their cries for help too loud, we founded the nonprofit association HAWAR.help .
I have taken on this challenge. Join in and help me to stop any kind of persecution worldwide. HAWAR.help!
